Male grooming is booming. The proof that men love to pamper too

Now more than ever male grooming is going through a boom, with the global market projected to be worth more than £56 billion by 2023, it’s a number that’s raising eyebrows.

Societal norms have been steadily shifting in the last decade, resulting in a more accepting attitude towards men who love grooming and beauty products just as much as women do. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way from the days when beauty was believed to be the sole reserve of women. It turns out that feeling good is (no surprise) for everyone. With over a year of lockdown, self-care is finally becoming a priority for all, and we’ve already seen an influx of male customers.

From the regular wax, manicure and massage appointments to the more ‘self-indulgent’ treatments too – like photo facials, pigmentation treatments and peels.

Why are men getting more beauty treatments?

There’s a school of thought that the stresses of daily life have changed the way men function and how they want to appear. Social media and the power of celebrity has made male grooming appeal to the masses. “Celebrities such as David Beckham and Zac Efron have made looking good more mainstream. Keeping a tidy beard, having facials and waxing have become normalised.”

Hair today, gone tomorrow

A male grooming discussion wouldn’t be complete without addressing the waxing habits of British men. As the latest season of Love Island is about to air –you only need to look at the last season, I don’t think the male contestants had a solitary chest hair between them! Social media, images in magazines and reality TV has seen the waxing trend go mainstream. Back and chest waxing is our most popular request, it’s not just the body that is on the receiving end of hair-removal treatments. Facial hair removal has risen – especially taming those unruly eyebrows.

But the latest trend – IPL Laser hair removal.

With advancing technology making beauty treatments easier and more effective, along with the growing number of men heading to our beauty clinic, we thought we would let you in on some of the secrets behind looking good. To help you understand the array of treatments available, we have come up with a few popular men’s beauty treatments for you to try out.

Gain Confidence With Our Men’s Beauty Treatments

Here are just a few of our favourite beauty treatments:

Waxing & IPL Laser Hair Removal

Although some men pride themselves on their hair, when hair travels from the chest and onto the back, a lot of men become self-conscious. Due to this, some men result to waxing their hair, which can be painful and becomes fairly expensive over time.

Waxing can be a great way to remove hair as it can give you a clean appearance, and over time, it can weaken the hair follicles. However, this is not the most efficient nor pleasant form of hair removal. If you are someone that suffers from sensitive skin, then you may find that waxing leaves your skin dry and sore. Furthermore, although waxing causes hair to grow back at a slower rate, you will still have to book an appointment every six weeks.

One of the best ways to remove unwanted hair is to undergo laser hair removal treatments. This is where a concentrated beam of light is used to remove unwanted hair. The light energy from the beam is transferred into heat; this heat then damages the sacs within the skin that produce hair. Although the procedure is slightly uncomfortable, it is a more effective way to remove hair and can last a year, if not longer. By having laser hair removal, you will only have to undergo a few treatments, and the area being treated will feel smooth for the rest of the year, avoiding painful visits to your local waxing salon.

Facials and Peels

Everyone deserves a pick me up every now and then to make themselves feel fresh and rejuvenated. Just like women, men encounter moments from time to time where their hormone levels change, and you become prone to breakouts. Facials not only make you feel good in your own skin, but they can also improve the look and feel of your skin, helping you with breakouts or damaged skin.

Not only are facials good for your skin, but they are also good for your wellbeing. Having a facial can reduce stress, both physically and mentally. Taking some time for yourself to look after your body and mind can have a big impact on the health of your skin and confidence in your appearance.

There is no denying that in today’s day and age, the majority of people worry about the effects of ageing on their skin. Having a facial regularly can help prevent skin sagging, giving your skin a radiant and youthful appearance.

At Marlow Beauty Lounge, we specialise in a variety of facial treatments, but here’s our top three that are really popular with our male clients.

Janssen Facial Peel

The first treatment is called Janssen Facial Peel, ideal for golfers, runners, triathletes, and walkers This new intensive exfoliation system is fantastic for clients with pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, scarring, blemishes and tired complexions. It is safe, comfortable, affordable and quick with the sessions taking less than 30 minutes. It rejuvenates your skin, alleviates pigmentation, and reduces the appearance of fine lines.

Illumi Photo Facial

The second is Illumi Facial, it’s the facial to have if you’re worried about discolouration or want to get rid of the ‘tired’ look. You see results straight after the first session. Illumi Facial is the ‘next generation’ of the highly successful ‘Photofacial’ treatments, using Lynton IPL laser technology. This treatment is perfect for anyone whose skin exhibits congestion, discolouration and visible signs of ageing. It’s one of our most popular options for many of our clients, helping you to achieve clear and glowing skin whilst the laser helps to rejuvenate the skin.

Lastly, we have the

SF HIFU SKIN TIGHTENING

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), is a must have treatment that heats the tissues below the deeper layers of the skin, causing it to contract and tighten. This therefore enables the health and vitality of the skin to improve by stimulating the bodies natural healing process to restore and rejuvenate the skin, leaving a youthful glow, and overall Skin Tightening and Rejuvenation, in just one session.

Cryo Med Fat Reduction

Your body can have one of the most significant impacts on your confidence, whether it is being unable to fit into your favourite pair of jeans, or being too afraid to take off your top on holiday. If you have attempted to shed some weight by exercising and dieting but still can’t seem to get rid of those last few stubborn pounds, then you may want to Cryo Med fat Reduction.

The Cryo Med uses cryolipolysis, or fat freezing, to reduce the number of fat cells in a targeted area. It’s a non-invasive method of targeting and reducing fat cells through apoptosis, or cell death. Scientists discovered that fat cells are much more easily damaged by cooling than other tissues, nerves and skin, and as such can be cooled to low temperatures -20 to cause apoptosis. These cells are then permanently removed by the body’s natural processes reducing the size of fatty tissue in a specific area. You can find out more about how the treatment works and how each step targets specific areas for a bespoke treatment plan over on our website or on Instagram. We are more than happy to discuss your problem areas and how you can say goodbye to those last stubborn pounds, so why not give us a call?
